Basic cart drag racing rules......

What's a secret? There's nothing tell. We have about 5 months till my next race, I figure over the winter would be a good time to lay out some safety rules.

Well i'm guessin' that somebody gettin' hurt is whats bringin' this back up? how and why did someone get hurt?. sounds like somethin' to tell to me.

In the history of motorsport, it seems to me that it always took somebody getting hurt or somebody getting killed to advance safety.

Well, more like someone got lucky, so Maybe it is time to start thinking about some rules.
Its not my place to tell, and I didn't see it happen so you will have to wait and see what comes of it. To my knowledge no one from our group took any pics, so we really don't have anything to show either.
You are correct, however, this weekend has changed my mind a little. And that is why I brought it back up. I'm still not for regulating the sport down to boring. But some simple safety requirement are in order, imo.

I don't know of a single form of racing on the planet that doesn't have some sort of rules in place. Perhaps we should learn from that as well.

I'm confident history will repeat its self with this. There is no way for it not to. HOWEVER, I really doubt it will be because of the guys racing right now. The more people that join up for it, the more opinions involved, and ya know what they say about opinions...

I had a helmet......it was very important as my head hit the rail when the cart flipped on its side
I had a safety harness.......it kept me from getting thrown........but, couldn't avoid some road rash
I lacked a cage.......needed that! And maybe arm restraints

At what time or speed is cage needed....11.99 ET or better / 50+ mph.......my guess

I'm thinking the first thing would be determine how fast a cart can be before a full cage, belts, etc. being mandatory. My opinion is anything over 40 MPH. The only problem is it will steer some of the lower end (slower carts) away but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Leather suit and helmet like the bike racers wear. Cheap enough and should keep most of the skin intact should you leave the cart or get stuck with it.
