Hi, i have a chance to buy a 96 western golf cart that is 36 volt, if i was to buy it i would want to convert it to 42 volt since the batteries are 2 year old trojens. Can the controller and solenoid be moved forward to provide room for the extra battery. They are located in the center and a rod is running back to them but i can't what it is. Has anybody tried this. This is a really neat cart in good cosmetic shape with good upholstery. What would be a good price for a cart like this?

im not going to say it wont, but a battery bank is a very tight place in most carts. you best bet is probably to stick it on on the back

That could be an option but i hate to use the bag space for the battery. I think the rod run from the gas pedal but am not sure as the cart is in the next town and not easy to get to inspect. This cart is the same style as DOUGMCP's cart only 96.

A couple of things to consider is that these were used as a private cart so they will have substantially less time on them then the retired golf course cart.
They are built on an EZGO chassis so parts are readily available.

The 42v model was just the 36v with an extra battery under the driver's side in the empty space.
EZGO changed their battery layout in 1994.5 so yours should be the same as mine. If it has the old layout like the marathon cart it may not be as new as you think.

Check the serial number of the cart, it is on the frame, passenger side, rear wheel arch under the seat. The 6th digit is the year and it should be a 6 if it is a 1996 cart.

I'm not sure which controller they used on the 36v cart but it could very likely be a 36v-48v controller. The numbers are on the end plate facing the ground so you will have a hard time reading it unless you take it off. The Curtis 1204 footprint model (6 1/2" long) is likely a 24v-36v model and the 1205 footprint model (9" long) is likely the 400 amp 36v-48v.

IMO, these carts are not well known so may not fetch a good price or people will shy away. My guess for a cart like that in good condition is between $1500 and $2000 depending on the battery age and condition.

You already have my phone number, call me if you have any questions about this cart.

Thanks doug, the battery layout is 3 0n each side with the controller in the middle, it dosen't have the dash like yours does. the lights are down low under the hood. I will call you later

Here are the photos of the 1996 cart Kangolfer is looking at:

The wheels are not original and look like they have been changed from the stock 10" to an 8" wheel. I'm not so sure that cart is a 1996 as the frame style changed in 1995.

Here is a 1996 model, note it has a different front cowl:

I't a 95, i called the guy a had him check the serial number and he called back and said the sixth number was a 5 which would make it a 95. He said he was glad to get the info so he could tell the buyer.m Maybe that will be me.lol.

That would mean that any chassis parts you need for this cart would be from a 1994 marathon cart. Still a good reliable cart IMO. It's still pretty cold out there, see if you can buy it cheap.

Thought i would offer him 900 in a couple days if he hasn't sold it. Does that sound about right. I would have to install turn signals as well as signal lights, seat belts, mirror and windshield to make it street legal in this town, about another 350 dollars, not to mention how much i would have to spend on my wife to keep her happy.
