96 EZGO 4 Stroke Won't Fire

My girlfriend brought home a 96' Ez Go 4 stroke. Manufacture Code: D1996. Dead on arrival. I put in a new battery and in turns freely, but doesn't start. I pulled both plugs, each will spark once when I turn on the key and press on the gas, then nothing. Everything else turns and the cart will inch along. One, maybe two puffs from the exaust. I did not have the original key, but I found a key that turn the ignition. I don't know if that has an affect, since the electrical and belts turn when I press on the gas. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Check the small black wires next to the ignitor. There is a bunch of wires connected to the frame. Make sure they are all tight and connected.

Have you experienced a similar electrical problem due a ground problem? Today I traced the wires from the coil to some type of a black relay black. I tested the current coming from the starter solenoid to this box. I get 11.5 volts to the relay box. But I only get .5 volts from the box, and only when I first push down on the gas pedal, then the current disappears. So although I do not know what this relay's purpose is, I think it may be my problem. Any advice?

Yes I had a cart that had the same problem and it was a bad ground where the group of wires are grounded to the frame. One of the eye connectors had broken off and was only holding on by a couple strands of wire. I fixed the connector and cleaned the frame where the wires were grounded and the cart ran fine.

had the same problem with mine it would only fire 1 time when you pushed accelerator took me a while to find the problem. the ground wire on the ignitor only had a couple strands of wire still connected at the ignitor.had to replace the ignitor and it started right up you may want to take a good look at it i missed seeing it several times. the ignitor is a black box also.
