when you push the pedal it just clicks. won't move forward or backward. when the kids mess with it sometimes they can get it to go but I don't know how. I have replaced the batteries, all new wires. replace the forward and reverse switch that the motor wires connect to. It seems to get really hot on those wires. Could it be the controller box or the pedal switch in the floor?

If the cables are getting hot at the forward and reverse switch you may have either a bad cable, bad cable connection or bad/misaligned contacts in the forward and reverse switch. All of these can cause the problem you're having.
