92 Marathon Briggs V-Twin Project

Finally on this side of the hill instead of that side. Now I can fab exhaust make sure my belt alignment is good a half dozen times. And avoid pulling this heavy thing again if at all possible. Maybe didn't skin this cat the same as everyone else but I'm with the results so far, keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way.

I'm hoping it does pretty good. We won't be doing anything too extreme. But there's a winch on front just in case.

Are there any alternatives for the equus 8068 or 7068 that work pretty well on these? I don't want to use a tiny tach either, they work but are not visually appealing to me at all. I use them during break in and on my generator to keep track of the hours and that's about it.

Mock up. Dyna glide muffler and header. I imagine with the catalytic converter it should be forestry approved, I can not see any sparks passing through no way no how. If I found out otherwise or if anyone knows for sure I will buy one of the generic spark arrestor inserts.

We've had a lot going on with excavating and trying to get moved and remodel the new place, so I'm sorry for dragging my feet so much on this. It really should have only been a couple week maybe month project if i worked on it regular and not jump around between my tractors and other projects

Just seen this thread. Very similar to ones i used to build years ago using John Deere Gator kawasaki 620cc v twins. I also used TXT front springs but used The factory front drop axle and spindles from the ST350 workhorse instead of a block lift. The front springs, I re profiled on a hydraulic press to mimic the original spring curve and removed that upward sweep so they had a slight continuous downward curve that kept the caster correct. it worked fine.

Ahh that would have been so much better. I had found a lift axle locally for the front but had the steel already. If I had a press and thought of that, it would have been much better. But I hope it will still work alright. I guess without a total suspension redesign it's still going to be a golf cart, just with a bit more umph lol

Put the idea in the back of your head for reference later on, It worked perfectly with OEM springs and looked factory, not sure about aftermarket ones, but i guess they could even be softer and easier to bend.

Well still chipping away. Got it started up to do a quick going over before bolting the swingarm back in. Sounds pretty good through a single dynaglide muffler with cat in it. This Briggs carb is real finicky. I can get it to run if I keep playing with the choke and throttle but even after a minute or so of revving in 80 couple degree weather it doesn't want to run without being messed with. I will mess with it a little more but ultimately it's getting the mikuni TM I keep seeing recommendations for the 23 horse Briggs. She's gonna drive it like a small car may as well make it perform like one? So close. So close.

Has anyone used the stock elbow from the intake to make their own mikuni adapter? Seems to me that I could bore a hole into a 3/8 thick piece of aluminum and drill and tap a couple holes and bolt a mikuni spigot adapter right to to it. Well obviously a bit more than that to true up mating surfaces but still a simple quick solution. The performance v twin piece is the real nice but we're about a hundred bucks difference in what I could make my own for. Although, that is a real stinking nice piece he makes.

Neighbor kid came over while I was messing around with the carb. He touched it now it miraculously works and revs and idles pretty well. It stumbles if you just nail it but I expected that with the stock carb. There must've been a pice of crud that forced through. I totally choked it off with my hand while he worked the butterflies and I did the solenoid wire. Popped off and started acting right, at least much better than I had going on the other night. Sounds pretty nice through the hd dyna glide muffler, it's a little loud but not terrible, it has that pop though. Can't wait to send the wife out on her maiden voyage. Either to drop the lot payment off or check the mail I imagine lol. I'm finally confident that the swingarm can go back under and I can do all the little stuff. I'm using one of my extra wheelchair batteries, that should give plenty of juice for the led lights winch radio etc. I even have a universal motorcycle brake switch so the tail lights will actually have brake lights. Eventually I will pick up one of those universal hazard turn signal levers like jcw used to sell. I'm pretty stoked. I'm kind of happy I can hold off a little longer on the mikuni too. It will perform fine around our community but I think riding out the road or trail riding that mikuni is definitely going to shine.
