I just got this 91 EZGO golf cart and it will turn over but won't start. It has spark I also feel a little vaccum at the carb when i put my hand over the carb and get a little gas on my hand. I also took the muffler pipe apart where it comes from the engine and connects to the muffler pipe and hit the gas and it just spits and pops out of the hole. The ignition switch is stuck in the on position so i have to dissconnect the battery when im not messing with it. The fuel pump seems to be working, I took the hose off and got gas spittin out of the line. The ground wire is frayed quite a bit where it connects to the battery but its getting spark. I need help where to go next.
Sorry for the long rant I just wanted to give as much info as possible thanks.

Welcome to Cartaholics.

The first thing i would check would be the compression, 120 lbs or more. sometimes spark plugs will spark but won't fire in the cylinder :twocents:

I don't have a compression gauge I guess ill have to try to find one. The only thing i have done to check it is take out the spark plug and hold my finger on it and hold the plug just above the hole to see how much pressure i could feel and it seemed to be good but may not be enough. What would be the lowest compression that it would still run? And what should the compression be? Would i need to rebuild the whole engine or just a new piston and ring set? Thanks for the reply.

You can rent a compression tester from most any auto parts store, 120lbs is about as low and still run ok. If its lower than a top end kit should fix it but you may need to go back and replace the seals, get the compression numbers and go from there :twocents:

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping it would be somethin simple like the carburetor, but i do need to take that off and clean it anyway? Thanks again.

it may be the carb, just sayin' the comp test will give ya a good idea of what shape its in.
