91 ezgo 244cc robin 2 stroke wont run right at all. new carb, hei mod, it will run in reverse perfectly, but in forward it backfires, and if you can get it started it will only run from 3/4 to full throttle then on decelleration it will backfire. any ideas? couldnt be the seal? i cleaned the carb with compressed air, new plug, ive tried everything, adjustment of the throttle cabe, still nothing good. the spark is great and i know all the wiring is hooked up correctly

thanks

well if it runs good in reverse then the timing is off, all those 2 cycles that run backwards for reverse are touchy. i would get at the timing plate and mark the plate and the case so ya know where ya started, then loosen the screws and move the plate one way or the other and keep tryin' it t'il it runs right. if the seals were bad it would run bad in either direction

thanks for the reply, the timing plate was all the way to the side that would make it retard, so probably why it ran good in reverse. did the seals too while the motor was out. starts and runs better now but theres a hell of a lot of banging from the clutch and theres 3 or 4 indentations on the clutch drum... i need a whole clutch or just the outer housing? or can i even take the clutch apart safely? maybe bang the dents out?

is this the style you have on there? if so the dent don't mean much, just keeps the dirt out. you can pull the six bolts and pull the cover off and look in there.
