Hey everyone, I have a 86 EZGO with Robin 2PG 244CC engine which I have rebuilt the top end in(new jug, piston and rings) as well as a rebuilt carb, but it still has no power. I also replaced the clutch but none of this has made any difference in the performance. I double-checked the piston to be sure it was put in correctly and now I am at my wits end as to where else to look to solve the problem. If you block up the rear-end it still barley has enough power to engage the clutch, not sure if it could be a timing issue or what any help would be great, as I am now getting to much money into in not to get it to run. :wallbash:

Yeah, I have an 81 2pg same engine as you. I have spent hours researching the same no power etc on the web. Just joined here today. It seems most 80s vintages are all experiencing the the malady..hmmm.

With the 12v electrical system and a lot of rattle and dirt.. any loose wire , corrosion, or just plain dust dirt on any connection anywhere in the system will cause trouble. However, it seems the ignitor and pulsar are the biggist part failure in this age group. Of course in front of these are the coil and voltage regulator. I have not found the test proceedure to for testing the volt reg. or the ignitor or the pulsar unit with an VOM. Can anyone post these test parameters please ?

yEAH, just got it and in the week I have serviced the fuel system and a new spark plug wire. Ran like new for 3 days. Now back to the same no accel or power and the plug gets wet but lots of spark but no advance now with the accellerator pedal movement. When I got it goin the pedal movement for sure speeded up the spark as I have an inline spark viewer tool.

I also have to go bak over the fuel system and recheck for vacume and other leaks in fuel pump, carb, and crankcase.

Will keep up with this forum. Mike James Boulder Colorado you may also email [email protected]

I was also thinking the reeds below the carburetor could be dirty also, I'm sure that could be at least part of the problem. I will have to try the exhaust trick too, seems that shouldn't be the problem as they have the empty can type exhaust but I am willing to try about anything at this point. :wallbash:

You might want to check the seals on the crank, I just rebuilt mine last summer, bored and new piston, new bearings and seals.
The old seals were split in 2 and the bearings were very rough, I don't know how it even ran in the past.
It runs like a champ now.

I am looking for a clutch, if you would like to get rid of your old one.
Thanks,
Good luck.

Is there a way to check if the clutch is good or not? it is off the cart already and I think now that I replaced it that it is still good, I don't really think it was the clutch in the first place. Thanks.

I got my flywheel off my Robin 295cc. engine When I unscrewed the 2 reluctor coil mounting screws, it fell away, before I could remember its orientation. I think I remember it may have been the base side up, and the tapered side pointing down toward the shaft. Upon inspection, the tapered side has a rectangular opening, revealing some exposed steel core plates. Hmmmm. Does this coil receive its firing signal from the passing Woodward key below, or the gap in the flywheel, above?
