85 Club Car Blowing Fuse

Hello! New to this site and can say so far I like the information I have found here. I recently purchased a 85 Club Car DS gas model golf cart that had been running, but the previous owner informed me it had quit and was having electrical issues. He said he had to replace the 10 amp fuse with a 20 amp to keep it going. So far I have checked for grounds/shorts on all the wires on the ignition switch, installed a new solenoid, new ignition switch installed. This cart has headlights/brake lights, but they are wired direct to the battery. The cart starts fine with a new fuse and will usually run for 5-15 minutes, but keeps blowing the fuse. I have not tried going with a 15 or 20 amp fuse. From what I have read 10 amp is correct. I have checked all the micro switches and they appear to be working fine. Can a bad micro cause a problem with that fuse? The fuse blows when the cart is in motion, although a couple times it blew quickly as soon as it started. Fuse does not blow when the ignition switch is just turned "on" but blows after the gas pedal activates the solenoid. The fuel pump is 12 electric and works but is kind of loud. Could it be drawing too many amps and causing a blown fuse? There is a fuse panel behind the ignition switch with the older glass fuses, but I am fairly certain those are for the lights. I do have a wiring schematic for the cart. Am running out of idea's, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

its just possible its the fuel pump but i wouldn,t go to a bigger fuse i would put a stock fuelpump on and a 10 amp fuse back in.

Thanks. Will look into a new fuel pump. I'm leaving Colorado for vacation in Idaho and taking the cart with me. There is a cart mechanic there at the golf course who is going to take a look at it for me.

Thanks for the reply. In Idaho and still blowing fuses. Experimented with a 20 amp and it blew also. Funny there is no "hot" or burnt wires though. The cart does have a toggle switch for service mode or regular run mode and it doesn't blow the fuse as often when in service mode. I did get my hands on a wiring schematic for this year cart and it did come originally with a 12 volt fuel pump. I would hate to try to find one of those! ha ha.

Thanks for the suggestions from everyone. I did finally solve the issue of the blowing fuses. There is a wiring harness leading to the back of the cart, right near the service switch. It was zipped tied on from the factory very tightly. Removing the zip tie revealed a bare spot on an ignition wire that was intermittently touching the aluminum frame. A little electrical tape and some readjusting of the harness and I'm playing golf! Enjoy this website, and the articles! Thanks again.
