I bouht a 82 club car for $100. It needed batteries and I put 3 12volt deep cycle marine in it. They seem to be doing fine. The problem is in fwd and rev it surges when you give it the gas. Is this because a solinoid is messed up? Please help. Thanks

Surging is generally caused by not enough power, that could be anything from bad throttle connections, bad battery connections, bad cables to low batteries.
You may already know that 3x12v marine batteries are not recommended for golf cart use.

I was thinking that was the cause for the surging issue,,at least the first place to start to investigate. I'd hook up a digital multimeter across the batteries and watch the voltage while driving it,,,,i'm guessing the voltage is dropping when a load is applied, and those type batteries are not designed for cart use.

Put another way, the cart is "starving " for fuel so to speak,, it gets enough to get moving and then the batteries can't supply enough to maintain a steady supply.

I could be way off on this, but that is what i'm leaning toward as the problem

the cart only surges when I first give it gas to go. after that it runs fine. I read another post that someone had the same sort of problem and somebody said it could be one of the solinoids.
