48v EMC Cart, Curtis 1268-5403 Controller Code 34

Hi all, dramas again. Little while back I replaced the brushes & holder on an xq3.8 motor. Has been going great til today. Just started cutting in and out. Fault code registered 3-4. All new batteries and cables, can’t find any loose connections. Wondering if someone can give me a good place to start the diagnosing. Thanks as always.

Okay so I find that 34 means field winding fault - loose / open. I’m guessing this is the do with the f1 & f2 terminals on the motor. All connections are tight, is there a test I can perform with a multimeter.

did you use a back up wrench when you loosened and tightened the motor connections ?
if not, you may have twisted a field connection wire inside the motor

place the T/R switch in Tow
disconnect the battery minus
remove the F1 and F2 connectors from the controller
Ohm between the two wires you should see between 1 and 2 ohms
if not check again at the motor
if it still reads bad, the motor is likely bad
any good motor repair shop should be able to fix it

if the motor reads good
check the cables carefully, sometimes the connector on the end of the cable does not have a good connection

Chinese carts are bad about the wires breaking at the eyelets where they are crimped on. They look good but the insulation is all that holds it together. Be sure to do a wiggle test on wires when you ohm them out

Sorry for the delay response, been unwell. Motor tested okay. I have purchased new
wiring and eyelets. Nearly sure it’s what’s letting me down.

did you test them with an ohmeter ?

I did. It would only beep when I wiggle the wiring. Terminal looks poor and wiring is very old

then you are certain
not nearly sure

I’ll be certain when I put the new wiring on and it goes again without fail. Hopefully get a chance this afternoon.

Success!!! So far!!! New wiring installed and it’s off and running. It hasn’t given up after a few hours of use. Thank you Jeff & Zman.
