42 or 48 volt upgrade

If I upgrade to 42 volts do I leave the solinoid hooked up the stardard way? I know I will have to add a 6 volt charger and move the standard charging system to only charge the 36 volts. will the 36 volt HD solinoid work. I am running a Beast motor and a 650 alltrax controller w/ 2 Gauge cables throughout. Plenty of tourqe but NO speed. Hopin the extra 6 volts will do the trick.

Your not going to get much more speed out of a 36vto42v jump, you might be further ahead to go to 48v.
The solenoid stays wired the same as it is now, across 36v. So you would just move it's connection point back 1 battery. It will actually work on 42v but not sure how long.

Im really thinking of just making the jump to 48...im just not getting the speed out of the BEAST motor. I know it it a tourque motor..but Im only getting about 12mph. guess I'll just bite the bullet and jump to 48 by adding two more 6 volts. anyone know the best place to get a 48 volt EZ-GO TXT charger? Ive seen the ones on ebay that you can switch from 36 to 48...are they any good? Or can would it be ok to just use a 12 volt charger to charge the second two batteries?

You can use a 12v charger to charge the last 2 batteries but it is not the most ideal way to handle the job. The LVS switchable chargers you have seen are so so and some have reported problems with warranty. Not to say they're bad, just saying what I have heard.

Don't expect a lot out of the beast motor for speed. It's a torque motor and you may get a couple more MPH out of it. I had a D&D motor as such like the Beast and it was on 72 volts and only ran 22mph top end. So don't be mad if you only see a few MPH gain out of it.

That depends on how fast you want to go and how fast you want to get there. Why do you have a monster totque motor in a cart that you want to speed up? I would swap motors out for a nice factory motor and put it on 48 volts. A 36 volt motor on 48 volts will run faster and have about 20% more torque.

I got the tourqe motor because im in the woods and mud a lot. most of the time the cart is off road. its just getting to the area i ride takes forever cause it is about a mile away. ive thought about putting the stock motor back in, but i was afraid the 650amp controller would burn it up.....ive got the program to set the controller so i guess i could always turn it down.......would 48 volts w/ a 650 controller and stock motor work ok.... i know i would lose some of my tourque. I built a cart a few years ago w/ the Beast, 48 volt, and i think 6:1 gears, but it was stock wheels. it would run about 30 mph...according to the police radar.

Why not go with the 30 MPH setup then?
Stock motor in good shape should handle it fine. Just don't put it in a bind and flooring it.
650amp will be a little high but as long as it isn't punished with a lot of steep hills and a lot of mud it should be fine.
