I own a 1998 Yamaha 4stoke cart that I use at my Driving Range to Pick Balls. Recently the cart start "sputtering" when it gets hot. It runs great cold but after awhile it sputters and will even stop. (belts off motor will turn but drive belt won't) I changed the fuel pump, plug and cleaned the air filter and hoses any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Kinda of in dire straits because I need the cart pretty much on a daily basis. Hate to bring it to a repair shop and have it tied up for weeks.

Sputtering suggests to me flooding. It might have a bad inlet needle seat or the float could be either set too high or saturated with fuel. Before tearing the bowl off check for carbon on the plug and at the tailpipe and see if there is a noticeable fuel odor when it's about to stall. A sure sign would be fuel dripping from the carburetor but that doesn't always happen, especially when the float is just heavy from fuel saturation. In that case an engine can run perfect all day sitting still but as soon as it is moved around the engine floods and dies, then starts and runs fine after the excess fuel evaporates. Very frustrating. Good luck!

Another thought - if that sputter is "dry" like a miss instead of "wet" like flooding, check to see if your machine has an over-speed device that cuts off the ignition when the engine goes over a preset rpm. If this was an old engine I'd suggest a failing condenser but I imagine there's all sorts of heat sensitive crap inside an over-speed device.

Thanks HM sounds like good advise. I do smell fuel when she is about to die or begin sputtering I will check the carb! I put a carb cleaner in my gas tank to see if it may help at all if not i'll tear her down and look at the needle valve!
