36V to 42V

I've tried the extra battery on my 36V system but all I'm getting is a click from my solenoid. I've upgraded to a 400 amp controller and 4 ga. wires. Do I need a heavier solenoid?

You don't need a heavier solenoid and there are no 42v solenoids so the 36v one is the one you use.
Normally the solenoid is short wired in the pack to 36v.
Unless you bough a 42v charger, the charger wire gets moved back to the 36v area so you can still use your 36v charger. You charge the last battery with a 6v charger.
What is the voltage measured at the charger receptacle?
Which controller did you use?
If it is not rated for 48v it will go into the over-voltage shutdown.
Do you have any photos of your installation of the battery compartment with all the batteries connected?

I have the 36V charger. When time comes to charge the 7th battery I would do a quick disconnect to 6 batteries and charge the 7th using a 6V charger. The problem is when I have 42 volts I get nothing when I depress the pedal. The batteries are wired in series correctly. (Meter shows 45.7V) Controller is a Curtis 1206 upgraded to 400 Amps.

You don't have to disconnect your batteries to charge, simply move the 36v charger wire back to 36v (the 6th battery), then just put the 6v charger on the 7th battery.
The 1206 is an Ezgo OEM controller and I don't think the 1206 Curtis is capable of 42v unless they upgraded the voltage as well when it was rebuilt. You will have to confirm this with the company that did the modification.
If a controller is supplied with too much voltage it will not work, it goes into an over-voltage protection mode and shuts down.
To confirm this, connect it back up to 36v and see if it works.

Disconnected the 7th battery and cart ran as before. I'll check with the rebuild shop (Controller services). Thanks for your help.

At least the cart is still working and you haven't let the smoke of of anything.
Let us know what the rebuilder says.

Rebuilder sent me a modified 1206 that handles the 42V upgrade. short wired the HD solenoid to 36 volts and runs like a champ. Increased torque and gave me an extra 3mph.
Life is good.

haven't been on here much lately , but is there a write up on how to do this 42v mod. not sure what you mean by short wiring ,, and moving the 36v wire on the 7th battery to charge?
sounds like a good mod though!
