How can I tell if my Cart is 36V or 48V?

I am a newbie. Also what is the benefit one vs. the other?

And how hard is it to change/upgrade? And what a benefits or doing so?

Thanks in advance.

Well several ways. Count batterys 6- 6 volt batteries are 36 volt. You can take a volt meter and touch the first neg and the first pos coming out of the charger connection.

Josh, look at your batts and count the caps x 2 = volts. 6 volts have 3, 8 volts 4...... If you are 36v, to change to 48v you need a controller, solenoid, charger that is capatible with the upgrade. Upgrade your resistor/diode (alltrax has specs), and probably want to go ahead with HD f/r and definitely upgrade cables (all 13) 4ga minimum. Motor should be fine, no rpm issues with 48. Hope this helps. Adam

Just went out and put meter on the batteries. They are 6 volt each. I have 36V system.

What are benefits of going to 42V or 48V?

More/Longer power?

Thanks.

Thank you very much for all the input.

A few more questions for anyone willing to help.

How hard/involved is it to switch up to a 48V system tech wise?

If I went to 48V system with 500a controller and 2 gauge wire, could I hit 25 MPH?

Thanks.

Not too difficult. Just purchase the items you need for upgrade, disconnect cables and reconnect. Maybe write it down or take a pic, the forum folks with always help if you hit a snag.

25mph, if your motor was already going 18.5mph on 36. Approx. 33% increase in speed.
