i have a 2002 ezgo txt fleet i just bought a couple weeks ago. it has been running fine with good power and i checked the batterys when i bought it and the were all good according to what ive seen on other posts on here. but today we took it to our hunting land and my wife rode it off and on for a couple hours. then i rode it mabey 100 yds and it just stopped. when i put it in reverse it bumped like it wanted to go but that was it. the back-up beeper works when put into reverse but now no movement. so i brought back home and put on charge thinking the batterys were just dead but now the charger wont kick on. PLEASE HELP NOW THE WIFE THINKS I BOUGHT A LEMON. THANKS

Welcome to Cartaholics.

It's more than likely a bad connection or bad cable. Look at all the battery cables and give them a wiggle. If the cables are good and all the connections are clean and tight check the voltage on each battery and post your results.

thanks for the quick reply. i went out this morning to check my cart and the charger was charging so i unpluged it and now it works. i checked the batterys and they all read 6.4. is that good or are my batterys getting weak? does this normaly happen when the batterys get low? by that i mean the cart just cuts off when the batterys get too low. THANKS AGAIN

Usually the cart will jerk and shudder before it stops but yes, it will stop with low batteries.
6.4v is 100% charged, a load test will confirm their condition.
Carts should be recharged every time they have more than 15 minutes of peddle time. Never let the batteries go below 50% charge.

Here's a SOC chart to help you:

Your total battery voltage has most likely dropped to a point that the charger will not turn on. Powerwise chargers require a minimum of I believe 28 volts to turn on. The cart "bumps" because there is just enough voltage present and it is trying to move. You can "jump start" the batteries with an automotive type charger. If the charger has 6-volt capability, charge each battery for about ten minutes and then try the cart charger again. If it still does not come on, repeat the process. If your automotive charger does not have 6-volt capability, charge two batteries at a time. Put the red cable on the positive terminal of one battery and the black cable on the negative post of the battery right next to it. Charge for 15-20 minutes and try the cart charger.

thanks for the replies. but now more problems. the other day it went back to working like it was supposed to but today after 3 or 4 days of charging when i went down to check it it wont go again????? now when i turn the key on and depress the pedal i hear a loud click in both foward and reverse and IT WONT MOVE...... it sounds like a sylinoid switch clicking on a car. i was going tomorrow to see about getting my lift kit and tires and rims but now i dont know what to do.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!! THANKS

Put the rear axle up on jack stands, then install a 6g jumper cable across the large posts on the solenoid. Try the cart, if it works correctly the solenoid is failing and needs to be replaced. Do not let the motor freewheel with no resisitance, just blip the throttle to test.

thanks, tonight I took some of the battery cables off and some of them were corroded to the point of falling apart. so I labeled all the wires on the controller, solenoid, F/R switch and batterys. i then drew a diagram of everything and then removed all those wires so i could measure and find out how much wire i will need to replace everything. I went by the welding supply store today and asked about their welding wire. When I asked about 2 gauge and 4 gauge wire they asked me if i meant 2 ought or 4 ought. Is 4/O and 2/O the same as 4 gauge or 2 gauge? I would like to go tommorow and get everything I need to fix this thing. Ive read on this forum that replaceing all wires would help with speed and torque and i wanted to do that anyway so its kinda good thats the problem. One more Question do I need 4 gauge or 2 gauge or is there enough difference to spend the extra money? I plan on a 5 inch lift, 22 inch or bigger tires, mabey a bigger controller in the future. THANKS FOR THE HELP

4/0 and 2/0 gauge is huge. What you need is 4ga to replace the 6ga stock cables that were on it. The reason the welding shop asked if you wanted 2/0 is that very few welders use anything as light/small as 4ga. 4ga is usually plenty unless you are doing something that requires a lot of power.

Thanks, I thought that myself but i just wanted to make sure i was doing the right thing. is 4 gauge ok if i wanted to upgrade my controller to say 600 amps or would 2 gauge be better? I want to make sure that whatever I do now will handle anything i put on it in the future. thanks for the quick reply.

2ga is better than 4ga and will handle at least 20% more power demand. It is also a little harder to work with and form around things and attache to FNR, controller etc. 2ga is doable with care.

thanks dougmcp, im going today and get all the goodies i need. i measured all the cables and i came up with about 28 feet so ill get about 30 feet of 2ga. ill let you know how it went. I bought this cart just to have something to turkey hunt with and for the wife and kids to play on but ill tell you after messing with it this past few weeks its became an obsession. hehe thanks for all the help

NOW ITS RUNNING AGAIN THANK THE LORD.... it feels like it has ALOT more power. it really wasnt a bad job. it only took 2 afternoons and would have been faster if I wasnt so nervous about touching the wrong wire or something and frying my controller. but all went well. Now the next thing is my lift kit and tires, hopefully some nice lights, semi gloss black paint, flip down back seat, front basket, gun rack all before march 15th (opening day of turkey season) But Thanks for all the help. Im so luckey to have found this site. To who ever started this.....GOOD JOB
