2000 Club Car Problems

Hello All,

I am a newbie here to this site. Looks like a great place to visit and get help.

I have this 2000 model Club Car, I think called a 48 volt series type. It does not have the "tow and run" switch or rocker switch for forward and reverse.

Last week it got slower and slower for about a hundred yards and quit. I checked just about eveything I knew to check, batteries, solonoid, wire tightness, etc. and still no go.
I opened the accelerator switch box, with batteries disconnected, and held a small amount of pressure on the swinging arm, that regulates the "speed" of the cart, reconnected the batteries and it started running again. Only thing, it runs wide open all the time. No matter where the pedal is positioned. The only thing I did was clean the brass connections with fine grit emery cloth and wipe clean.

Any ideas?

Is it the controll box done went bad, stuck in the max position?

Any suggestions on test I can do to pin point the problem?

Any place I can send the controll box to get it tested and refurbished if need be? A tag on it says it is a refurbished unit.

Thanks and Have a Great Day,

It sounds like the controller is shorted. Rebuilt controllers have a bad rep and can cause all kinds of problems. If your going to replace it your best bet is to buy a new controller...

Is there no way for the average guy to test the controller to confirm it is bad.

A new one, from what I have seen , is about $700 to $1200, depending on where it is bought.

Got some information from the dealer where I bought this cart about 4 years ago. He said if I used an ohm meter I could tell whether it was the potentiometer (accelerator V- switch) or the controller box. Check the ohm reading on the two wires (yellow and green wires) to the controller box as I pressed the pedal. The ohms should go up the farther I pressed the pedal down. If it does then it is the controller box, if not, it is the V slide.

My pedal does not show any change until I reach the next to last contact. One through 6 has nothing on the meter. 7 has a reading of 1050 and contact 8 has a direct reading of 0000 on the meter. This 0000 represents a direct connect doesn't it?

I also noticed on the wiring diagram for my cart the A1 Green wire is connect to the B+ terminal of the controller box, but on my controller box the tag says connect this to the A2 post of the motor. Which is correct?

Not sure right now how the cart was connected. I have the controller box disconnected and off.

Anyone know what I am doing??????? Is it all real or what?

Found problem after several tests. Put the controller box on an idebtical golfcart and it did the same thing, wide opened. New box, ok.

Thanks for the help.
