1998 Club Car 48v Reverse Issues

Have a 1998 Club Car 48v. It was running fine until I finished up a round the other day and all of a sudden wouldn’t go in reverse. Solenoid clicks when pushing on accelerator. Will still go forward with no issues.

Replaced theses parts prior to this issue- OBC, 500Amp controller, F&R switch, potentiometer, and all micro switches.

After reading some research it sounds like I may need to upgrade to HD F&R and possibly cables to a 2 or 4 (I believe it has stock 6 cables right now). Burning up my F&R?

Cart still has stock wheels and no lift.

Any guidance is much appreciated!

how much prior to this issue did you change those parts ?
right before ?
or some time before and the cart ran for a few days ?

did you look at the FNR to see if the contacts are damaged ?
if they are damaged, yes replace it
either way make sure to properly set the tension that holds the contacts together
lack of tension causes poor connections

poor connections usually burn up or dont work right

When you say you may need a heavy duty FNR switch I assume your cart is a series cart with the lever FNR switch and not the rocker switch. Is that right? Does your cart have a run/tow switch?

according to the diagram i have
he has a shifter under the seat, Vglide, and a series controller

I missed the part where he says "and all micro switches". The reason i asked is because the regen carts from that year appear to have a second solenoid with a resistor coil on it for half speed reverse. There are 2 types of 48 volt DS carts that year and they both use the potentiometer. Only the 36 volt cart that year used the V Glide so you may be looking at a 36 volt diagram. This manual shows all 3 designs.

Changed the parts about 3 golf rounds ago. Contacts appear to be good.
I did notice (when it was working in reverse) it would almost jump into reverse and go from zero to full throttle despite barely touching the throttle causing tires to screech.
