1997 Club Car Gas Solenoid / Diode Question

I was replacing the solenoid on my 1997 gas Club Car an noticed it does not have diode connecting the small terminals.
What it the purpose of the diode? What size it it so I can buy one locally if needed.

I was replacing the solenoid because the cart would just click instead of starting 30% of the time.

Diodes in this instance are used for suppression, any time a coil, like used in a solenoid is de-energised or turned off the coil can produce a high voltage spike. Any electronics can be damaged, ie radio, cell phone charger, controller etc. The diode dissipates this Spike back to the positive side and thus protects.

No sorry I don't sell diodes you can get them 100 different places try jameco, 5 to 10 amp
