1996 Club Car DS 48 Volt Power Drive Plus Problems

I have a 1996 Club Car DS Power Drive Plus 48 volt with two solenoids and a 5 wire forward reverse rocker switch. Bought this cart several years ago under impression it needed batteries. Installed new batteries and no go. New solenoids still nothing. Sent the old T shape controller to a guy that rebuilds them and it worked perfect. Now, a couple years later, it will run fine for about 30 to 45 minutes, and quits going forward. Reverse is working fine. After a hour or so, it will go forward again. Solenoids click when in forward, but no go. I replaced them again to be sure. Replaced forward reverse switch. Still does the same. Any ideas?

That's what I have heard. I found a harness that will convert to a IQ system as well as a controller. I belive the harness # is 39000. And a controller with a # 1510-5201. Will this combination get me going?

Well got the cart out today and within 5 minutes quit going forward. As I tried to get back in reverse, it wouldn't go either. Solenoids clicked but nothing. After trying a few times it went backwards. If I let off pedal and try again it wants to. Think still controller?

If you get to the point where you are going to go for the IQ conversion there is a little more to it than just the harness. Here is a link to a kit with everything you need to do the conversion. You may be able to call these people and delete things you don't need but I would go for the MCOR 4 conversion as well if I were you.

Does anyone know if the 102196601 harness and a 1510-5201 controller will fit my 1996 DS with the old T shape controller.

That harness and controller is most of what you need to convert from regen to an IQ system which is a later and improved set up. Does your motor have the triangle shaped speed sensor plug? If so that part is good . You will only use one solenoid. The IQ system uses a 3 wire FNR rocker switch.
As I said above there is more to it. I don't know why you ask if it fits a T shaped controller if you are getting rid of that controller. When it boils down to it you can put that harness in any DS you want to but there is a little more to it.

Understand what you mean by cheap. I have had dealings with that before, but I am not wanting to put much into this cart. I believe I am going to use the #39000 regen 1-2 to IQ conversion harness, the 1510-5201 controller, and a AM293101 MCOR 4 Conversion Kit. My OBC is already bypassed, and I am using a smart charger. I have the rocker switch for Forward and reverse, but mine is 5 wire, and I also have 2 solenoids. I have heard that the switch will still work and i just use 1 solenoid.

I am not the biggest fan of the 39000 harness, they combine the tow switch into the key switch so everytime you turn off the key you are resetting the controller and you won’t have rollaway braking. If the harness linked is an accurate reproduction of the original iQ harness I would go with that.

Will the OEM part #102196601 harness work to convert this cart so long as I use the 1510-5201 controller without any other mods?

Wonderful!! So just to make sure my mind understands this, My cart is a 1996 DS, 2 solenoids, and no tow switch. I can replace the harness with a OEM IQ harness, the 102196601, and a new 1510-5201 controller. Use my potentiometer, keep the OBC bypassed, and no tow switch, and I should be good?

NO you need a tow switch for that harness, if you want no tow switch for whatever reason you need the 39000 harness for the reason I already explained
