1995 Club Car Gas Engine Problem

I recently purchsed a 1995 Club Car with a gas engine. When I bought the cart it had sat for a year. When I arrived to get the cart the previous owner was squeezing the rubber air box tube attached to the carb. When it warmed up it was running OK. Starting off it had power but when running full throttle it was cutting out. The previous owner had removed the air filter because the old filter was rotted. It had only been runnning for a few minutes without the filter. I have cleaned and replaced all the old wiring with new wiring, installed a new air filter, changed the oil and filter, drained the gas and replaced with new gas. When I pressed the gas to start the engine it ran for a a few minutes and then started smoking a little. It was late so we stopped until the next day. When I arrived home from work I turned the key and pressed the gas to see what would happen? To my surprise the oil stick SHOT out and gas and oil went everywhere. Somehow gas had gotten in the oil? I drained the oil/gas and put new oil back in, cleaned the carb and put it back on. Upon tyring to start the engine again there was gas in the top gas line filter but none in the bottom gas line filter and the engine kept running ???? I checked the oil and it smelt like gas again. This is where I stopped. I am not sure if I connected the gas lines correctly? Can anyone send me a diagram of how the gas lines run? Is this a common problem? Is the engine gone? Do I need to have it rebuilt? I need to purchase the owners manual but I am trying to avoid being divorced over buying a golf cart that does not run. Does anyone has a book for my cart that I could print? I am trying to avoid the $70.00. I only gave $350.00 for the cart so I am not out too much. How much to rebuild the engine? This is not something I could do myself and would like to know what it would cost if it should need to be done? One more thing. Is there a choke cable? There is not one attached to the choke. It is just a black button under the seat that you push. The fenders are off so all I have is the frame and engine and do not see where a choke cable has ever been? I know buy the dang owner's manual. Any help would be apperciated.

sounds like you got you a good little project there first of all from experience if the cart sat for a year the carb. should have been cleaned thoroughly to begin with. the needle on the float could have been sticking causing gas to continue to gravity feed into the engine also possile the diaphram in the fuel pump is bad. it's possible you crossed the fuel lines but how did engine run if fuel was not flowing into carb. pump vaccum is the bottom hose on pump don't have a diagram but check the resources thread. rubber air tube attached to the carb. i'm assuming this is the crankcase vent hose am i right if so check this hose out good make sure it is connected on both ends and hose is not broken or cracked if so replace this hose could also be plugged. remove plugs and clean if needed or replace probably clean first. did i understand that you have 2 filters on the system why only need 1 from tank to pump. sounds like you have some minor problems with fuel and firing system but nothing very expensive. lots of questions and my memory does not serve me well can't recall them all but check these things out and ask again if needed we can work on this a little at a time and get ur done. oh yea the wife will have as much fun as you will when you get this thing figured out.

I bought a new carb and the owners manual and the cart is running. The manual is by far the best money I could have spent. The gas in the oil had the be related to a float in the carb being stuck.
