New to carts and was given this one. We wanted to make some changes but wanted to fix one problem first. The reverse alarm goes off when put in forward not reverse. Would appreciate any suggestions to fix.

It sounds like the reverse buzzer is wired to the wrong micro. Check the wiring with a wiring diagram from the Yamaha Resource section of the forum.
