1991 G8 Gas Parts

I was just given a yamaha G8 golf cart with a gas engine. It seems to be missing the carb spacer, the ignitor, the regulator, pushrods, the little bracket that holds the rocker shaft and rocker arms on, and the back of the seat. Maybe even more I just don't know yet. Bad spliced together wiring. It has been painted yellow with stenciled butterflys on it. Should I fool with this thing or is it gonna be a big money pit? Are electrical parts expensive for these? Is there a G8 graveyard somewhere near cincinnati I could visit for parts or do I have to buy new.
Any help?? serial number is JF2 103303

For the parts you mentioned, if you are buying them brand new, you could very well spend between US$200 to $250.

Look for used parts. I am not sure if there are junkyards for golf carts. If you can find one in a junk yard, all you can probably see is a cannibalized chassis!

I guess what I'll need to do is call the local golf courses and see if their mechanics know anything about used parts. I can't imagine that all the courses use new carts and don't need to find something a little older every now and then.
I am most curious about parts interchangeability. What can I use from other models. I'm not seeing the g8's online very often whether it be carts for sale or parts for sale.

Hello Dan. Finally I found someone who is more open minded about parts interchangeabilty. To start with, G2 and G9 belong to the same family and practically all parts are interchangeable. What you see as difference is purely cosmetic. Different roof pillar, different A-arms (buy you can interchange). That's it.

The G8 uses a different ignitor and of course a different wiring harness to fit the ignitor male and female plugs. All other parts are interchangeable from carburator to shift cables to accel and governor cables, etc.

The G14 is somewhat similar (except for the body style which is more like a G16). You can transplant a G2 engine to a G14.

Ignitors between cart models and even cross models (i.e., ClubCar, Hyundai and Ezgo and Melex) are also interchageable depending on your "knowledge" of electricity. Some Ezgo ignitors (very cheap in used condition) can be wired such that you can use them in your G2, G9, G8, G11 and G14. The problem with Yamaha ignitors is that if the connectors (male and female plug) are damaged, you have to buy a new wire harness or a new female plug if you can find one.

The EZGO ignitor has only 5 wires and that is all you need really (please refer to an EZGO wiring diagram). The Yamaha ignitors come with 7 pins and 9 pins. I find the extra 2 and 4 pins (representing wires) irrelevant for my needs. Example: the buzzer wire need not pass through the ignitor.

The other nice thing about EZGO and Hyundai (same ignitor for certain models) ignitor is that you can splice the wires in case you have a problem with a wire or two.

I have a Melex with an EZGO solenoid and a Hyundai ignitor. My G2 is running on an EZGO solenoid and EZGO ignitor. The ignition coil came from a Japanese Yamaha G10 (yes G10, Turf Lady that's what they call the model in Japan).

The possibilities of part swapping is endless.

well knowing that most parts from a g9 will fit the g8 makes me a little more optomistic about getting this cart running. The ignitor will probably be one of those parts i will have to buy new.
I will probably start looking for a complete used engine. Mine has sat out with the spark plug removed for over a year. It's probably all rusted in the cylinder.
