I am having trouble getting this cart to run the way it used to. It has always run great, pulled the hills and run flat out on the level but now it is just not getting the power it used to. Jumps out of the hole from a stop but stutters and backfires at mid range. I recently installed a new head gasket. I have cleaned the carb and changed the gas. Also would really like to find a repair manual. Any help?

Welcome to the forum

I have been told the back firing usually comes from a mis adjusted throttle , allowing the carb to be slightly open ,, when you 'cleaned ' the carb did you use a soak or a spray cleaner ?

I used a spray cleaner to clean the carb. A guy here just told me it was getting too much gas? He told me to adjust the floats but i don't remember there being an adjustment. Maybe the throttle is the thing. Plug is new but the filter is old. The muffler has a small hole blown in the bottom.

It may still have some dirt in it. You need to blow it out with a compressor after using the carb cleaner.
To adjust the float you bend the tang on the float that the needle rides on. The float should be level when the float is up.

The throttle adjustment did the trick! No more backfire. I had the cable set so the throttle was partially open. Now I can get into rest of the work. Ordered new filters and a muffler.
