I need to replace the crank seal behind the CVT drive pulley. While I easily figured out how to remove the outer pulley sheave - I have had no success with the inner sheave. Looking down the bore of the sheave I can see internal threads for a portion (to hold the fixing bolt) of the length. I can also see the end of the crankshaft.

The rear side of the inward drive sheave had a 1 and 3/8 inch nut welded to the back of the sheave. I've manufactered a wrency from 1/4 plate but cannot budge the nut.

I've checked the local Kohler shop with model (K241A) and spec but cannot see, on factory blueprint, any indication of whethere the pulley is a press on or screw on.

I've tried everything I know to get this off - yet it will not budge.

It's a running cart (with a large seal leak) so I don't want to destroy it.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm afraid this one has me stumped!

the few i have worked on all threaded onto the crank and like to freeze on, i had to put starter cord in the cylinder and run the piston up to the head on the compression stoke to hold the crank from turning and then give the wrench a couple of good cracks with the hammer. if you try this just make sure the valves are closed and piston is on its compression stroke or you could bend the valves.

Thanks for the information. How do I tell if it is screwed on or taper shaft? I assumed it was taper shaft after the wrench I made wouldn't budge it. Which direction to turn it off?

it would be hard to tell if its a taper, i have had about a 1/2 dozen apart over the yrs and they all were threaded but they may have had tapers also

it would unscrew counter clockwise. the clutches i've seen had a 1 1/8" square that was cast on the sheave, if theres a nut welded on it then its my guess its a thread on and the square had been rounded off at one time so somebody added the nut.

sorry i don't have a better answer for ya.
