09 EZGO ST Governor not working

So i was trying to limit the stretch of the governor spring and now after a few pulls tweaking it the governor now does not try to close the butterfly on the carb. I think something stripped out inside the gear box. Any ideas if this could damage anything else in the gear box? I adjusted the throttle so it wouldn't bounce off the rev limiter. Not too worried about not having a governor just want to make sure its not going to damage anything else. Thanks in advance.

hello fastpit, welcome to the forum. first of all, if its an 09 you should keep the factory settings for several hundrend hours just for break in reasons. if your trying to tweek it to the llimits before its time you may have messed something up. the threaded rod on the governer should be 1/2" to 3/4" exposed on the end. back off everything you did and put it back to where you found it, see if that helps any and if it does, thats good news. then we can try to get a little more speed out of it

Different governor hookup on the 09's. No threaded rod going through the spring with a nut. The throttle cable itstelf is hooked to a spring which is hooked to the arm on the governor. They did away with the rod/nut so you couldn't adjust. Nothing 2 zip ties around the spring doesn't fix.
