02 EzGo Electric Series Slows Down On Slight Inclines and Stops Running Sometimes

I just bought a 2002 Ez Go series 36v electric golf cart. I say series because no run/tow switch, forward/reverse switch between riders on bench.
The person I bought it from said the batteries were replaced in Aug '09. They are NAPA specialties. It does slow down on slight inclines. Has an irritating bounce, like a tire is out of round (the back left tire is worn on the outside and inside) Tires are Carlisle Badlands 20x11-8. But the worse thing is upon driving a short distance and then stopping - it will not go forward or reverse. The solenoid clicks when the pedal is pressed down. If I rock it, especially with it in reverse, it catches and then I can move it backwards then put it in forward and go. Do you have any idea what can be causing this?

start with checking the battery voltage...it should be good if the batteries were just replaced. for the bouncing check the air pressure in all the tires, also a tire could have a knot on it causing it to bounce. then check to make sure all connections are tight. especially on the forward/reverse switch under the seat. also check for signs of heat. could also be a bad solinoid

Hi rhgc, thanks for the reply. I have yet to check the voltage. I do have a load tester but not a volt meter. I also have a hydrometer. I'll do this battery testing soon.
The wires on the F/R switch look good and don't move when jiggled. There is a white wire that looks brownish up by the connection on the switch. Is that a sign of heat damage?
After first posting, I went for a drive, and noticed a shhh, whirring/grinding noise coming, I think, from the back. As the pedal was fully depressed I heard it and as I let off about half way the noise became louder. Pedal completely let off, the noise stopped. Bearings?
Sounds like I got more dollars coming out the pocket, and a weekend busy working instead of riding.
