melted battery post

My neighbor has a 2003 EZGO TXT. Installed 6 new 6v Trojan batteries In May. Date stamp EO. Tried driving it today and it died. Checked the batteries 2 were dead and one of the good ones connected to a dead one started to spark and the cable melted to the post. Could it be a bad cable? Thank...
